The purpose of tahfidz al-Quran is to produce the nation’s and religion’s next generation who love the Quran and practice its teaching values. In support of that effort, Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Jadid opened the IPA-Tahfidz department (a study program focusing on natural sciences with Quran memorization enrichment). The main objectives of the IPA-Tahfidz department at Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Jadid are: (1) to create a conducive atmosphere for students to memorize the Quran and maintain their memorization, (2) to create a conducive atmosphere for the development of Quranic learning activities. In line with that, the goals to be achieved are: (1) to produce excellent and quality individuals towards the formation of a Quranic generation, (2) to produce huffadz cadres who can implement the teachings and values of the Quran in everyday life, (3) to produce a Quranic science-minded generation. The process of memorizing the Quran at the IPA-Tahfidz department is carried out in several stages, i.e. (1) bi al-nadzar or reading the Quran carefully and repeatedly, (2) bi al-wahdah or memorizing little by little the Quran that has been read (bi al-nadzar), (3) talaqqi or confirming the memorization to the teacher, (4) takriri or repeating what has been memorized in the talaqqi stage, (5) tasmi’ or reciting the memorization as validation before someone with strong Quran memorization abilities. This Quran memorization training uses the an-Nur method. The an-Nur is a method of memorizing the Qur'an easily and quickly by combining the two powers of the right and the left brain together and in balance. It is applied by reading verse by verse with certain tunes and movements repeatedly until proficience, combined with paying attention to vertical and horizontal labels or symbols of numbers of the Quran verses.
